trade unions, community groups, faith groups, women and youth
organisations, NGOs and other campaigners working together across more than 100 national platforms. GCAP is calling for action from the world's leaders to meet their promises to end poverty and inequality. In particular, GCAP demands solutions that address the issues of:

  • Public accountability, just governance and the fulfilment of human rights
  • Trade justice
  • More and Better Aid
  • Debt cancellation
  • Gender equality.

Job Description

Main purpose of job

The GCAP Europe Secretariat Staff's main purpose is to ensure the smooth running of GCAP Europe through relevant co-ordination, information sharing, information retention as well as support for affiliate networks/ organisations and national coalitions.

Position within GCAP Europe

The GCAP Europe Secretariat Staff is accountable to the GCAP Europe
Steering Group, the GCAP Europe Annual Assembly and the GCAP Europe Secretariat Management Team, in that order.

The GCAP Europe Secretariat Staff is jointly line managed by the three
members of the GCAP Europe Management Team.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

Supporting functions

 

  • Support GCAP Europe Steering group. Organise monthly calls for the group and also take notes and send round to Steering members and national coalitions focal points if relevant;
  • Support the organisation of an annual GCAP Europe Steering Group face to face meeting;
  • Support the work of the European delegates in the Global Council and circulate key points of the Global Council calls to Steering members and national coalitions focal points when relevant/necessary;
  • Support the work of the European representatives in other GCAP Task Forces (Learning and Accountability Group, Feminist Task Force, Climate Change, Children and Youth...) helping them preparing their inputs and circulating key information to GCAP Europe coalitions;
  • Provide support on policy work linking to mobilisation, ensure European National Coalitions' participation in the design of the Mobilisation Activities by representing them in the Mobilisation Task Force teleconferences and through email communication;
  • Provide support to all working groups and task forces within GCAP Global/Europe and ensure good linkages between all and liaise with the National Coalitions and GCAP Europe Steering Group;
  • Support the organisation of the GCAP Europe Assembly in collaboration with the national coalition hosting the Assembly.
Information Management
  • Centralise information on GCAP Europe coalitions, their needs and potential contributions to capacity building - promoting new national coalitions and links between / twinning of national coalitions. Collect by calling and emailing National coalitions centralise information about capacities and plans of national coalitions and countries where no coalition exists;
  • Maintain and update the GCAP Europe database.

Communication

 

  • Ensure a fluid communication between GCAP Europe, other Regional Secretariats and Facilitative Structures such as the GCAP Global Secretariat on information exchange, administration and event organisation;
  • Undertake consultation with national coalitions or other relevant GCAP Europe members when required or deemed necessary;
  • Facilitate the coordination of GCAP media work;
  • Facilitate and coordinate inputs from European GCAP constituencies to whiteband.org and ensure GCAP Europe regional and national pages are up to date.

Other functions

  • Coordinate outreach and capacity building initiatives at European level and follow up. Support with outreach and capacity building work by producing clear material explaining GCAP and more so GCAP Europe. Promote and facilitate outreach initiatives of national coalitions;
  • Help desk for national coalitions;
  • Reporting to funders of GCAP Europe Secretariat;
  • Fundraising support (national coalitions, GCAP Europe Secretariat).

Requisitos

Person Specification

Knowledge


1. Excellent knowledge of campaign planning and campaign organisation in a multi-stakeholder environment;
2. Good understanding of international development issues;
3. Excellent information management and communication skills.

Experience

Experience of:


4. Developing, co-ordinating and evaluating collaborative campaign
strategies and involving others in this work;
5. Designing, organising and running capacity building activities;
6. Gathering, editing and disseminating information;
7. Planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluating, and reporting on own
work.
Desirable:
8. Planning and administering events and meetings.

Condiciones Laborales

Closing date: 6 April 2010

 12 months contract "under Spanish law" (3 months of test period, 12
months renewable), full-timeLocation: Madrid, Spain
